TWS WiFi Acceptable Use Agreement.
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that all Te Whaea Services (TWS) data, information, and technology is used in the correct way and for the appropriate reason. This includes email and internet use.
Appropriate use: Reasonable and responsible use which:
is predominantly for business purposes
does not impact on technology performance, speed, or availability
does not involve media streaming unless it is work related
does not result in unnecessary costs to TWS
does not involve excessive storage of personal material
does not include objectionable or offensive material
is consistent with usual professional, business, and ethical standards.
Usage
All users using Te Whaea systems and WiFi are personally responsible for using technology appropriately and in accordance with this policy.
The use of TWS (Te Whaea Services) technology is expressly prohibited for:
accessing, distributing, or storing offensive, illegal, sexually explicit, pornographic, obscene or otherwise inappropriate material
accessing or promoting on-line wagering, betting or gambling sites
accessing, sending, distributing or storing material that constitutes defamation, harassment (of any kind), interference, hatred or discrimination based on age, race, disability, religion, gender, sexual preference or any other unlawful grounds
using TWS networks or technology to undertake activities that are illegal under New Zealand or relevant international laws
violating any copyright, trade secret, patent or other intellectual property right, or similar laws or regulation. This includes downloading, or distribution of copyrighted music, videos, or photographs, or the installation of any copyrighted software for which TWS does not have an appropriate active license.
To avoid damaging TWS’ or the Schools’ reputation, users must:
not publish or update information on web sites (including blogs & social networking sites) that may lead to personal views being taken as those of TWS or the Schools
only publish properly approved content under Te Whaea Services or the Schools identification – including the use of business email addresses for personal postings
ensure the tone, language and format of emails or online posts are appropriate and will not bring TWS or the Schools’ into disrepute
not send or distribute material that involves political lobbying.
Personal Use
Personal use of TWS technology is permitted as long as it is appropriate and kept to a minimum. When using TWS technology for personal purposes users must not:
unduly impact productivity
threaten the security of TWS’ ICT environment
have an unreasonable impact on the performance or cost of that technology (e.g. non business-related streaming, downloading, or storage of music, personal material, video or image files).
TWS will not accept any consequential direct or indirect liability for any damage or loss resulting from personal use of its technology.
Key Responsibilities
The TWS Operations Manager is the lead for the ICT Acceptable Use Policy.
The Organsiations are responsible for:
ensuring users are aware of their obligations under the Te Whaea ICT Acceptable Use Policy
discussing use of technology with users to ensure use is appropriate, necessary and not putting TWS or the Schools at risk
reporting breaches of this policy to their General Manager / School Director and the TWS Operations Manager.
Monitoring and Compliance Management
TWS has the right to monitor and review all use of TWS technology, systems and information (including email and internet usage) to ensure usage is appropriate, safe and secure. When incurring excessive or inappropriate use, users may be required to justify that use.
Any breaches of this policy can be reported in accordance with the Te Whaea Complaints Policy or the relevant School complaint process. Breaches will be recorded in a central register, which will be maintained by the TWS Operations Manager.
